Primum Chair
Now with recycled plastic and 3 kg lighter

Our popular dining chair, the Primum Chair, is now 3 kg lighter, representing a weight reduction of 22%. This has been achieved by replacing 4.7kg of the 7kg black steel found in the chair’s seat and armrests with 1.7kg of recycled plastic.

The armrests have been reinforced with fibreglass to ensure the necessary strength, durability, and safety required for chairs used in public spaces.

From Cars to Chair Seats

When you sit in a Primum Chair, you’re not just sitting on a chair. You’re also sitting on remnants of old cars that once roamed the highways.

The steel plate that previously formed the seat of the Primum Chair has now been replaced by 95% recycled plastic, 78-98% of which is post-consumer plastic sourced from the automotive industry.

Same Aesthetics and Comfort

Although we are now making changes to the chair’s construction, owner and Creative Director Henrik Hvid Hansen assures that the aesthetics and comfort of Primum Chair will remain unchanged.

“We are very conscious of the fact that aesthetics and comfort are essential when we aim to reduce our consumption. If you are happy with your chair, you won’t discard it. You’ll take care of it, repair it if necessary, and pass it on to the next generation.

Therefore, it was crucial that replacing steel with recycled plastic would not affect the aesthetics and comfort that make Primum Chair special.” he says.

What a Relief!

By reducing the chair’s weight by 3 kg, it becomes easier for you to handle when pulling it out from the table and pushing it back in.

From 1 January 2025, all new Primum Chairs ordered will contain recycled plastic.
