OUR TAKE ON COMFORT

At Bent Hansen we deliver honest design with a passion for solid craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and unique comfort.

We believe, great comfort should consider both the physical, visual, and emotional perception of the furniture. Our knowledge in upholstery is gathered through more than 70 years of experience and combined with a playful approach to design.

We invite you to explore our furniture over and over for many years to come. Maybe you will rediscover remarkable lines and unusual details when looking at your furniture from new perspectives?

great comfort should consider our physical, visual, and emotional perception of the furniture.

MATERIALS MATTER

The right material shapes the design and adds comfort. Different textiles and patterns will change the experience of a sofa. They will set the mood of your home. They will do a chair justice or ruin its appeal. With more than 70 years of experience, we humbly dare to call ourselves experts in dressing furniture to its full potential.

our heritage

In the year 1948 saddle maker Svend Hansen establishes himself as a furniture upholsterer at Vesterbro in Aalborg, Denmark. In the 1950s, Danish furniture architects were making their first entry into the homes of the Danes.

A golden age in Danish design had begun, but customers still  wished to have their sofas and armchairs repaired and reupholstered. Not everyone was ready to let the architects dictate ‘good taste’.

In 1966 Svend Hansen’s son, Bent, followed in the footsteps of his father and together, father and son decided to expand the business and begin manufacturing bespoke interiors for restaurants, hotels and ships.

“When I was young, my grandfather was my role model. I spent countless hours in his workshop watching him painstakingly bringing new life into old furniture.”

In 1983, third generation, Henrik Hvid Hansen, joined the company. In the 1990s he began developing his own furniture collection and a comprehensive seat pad program for the market’s most popular designer chairs. The transformation of the company from workshop to design brand had begun.

“When I was young, my grandfather was my role model. I spent countless hours in his workshop watching him painstakingly bringing new life into old furniture. I remember my fascination with the precision of his hard-working hands and his innate ability to select the right kind of materials for the furniture at hand.

My grandfather was an upholsterer, and even though time has seen his workshop transformed into a furniture design company with its own in-house upholstery division, it is still his values that today form the cornerstone of Bent Hansen.”
